Must be 21 Y/O, posses a VALID FOID card, and complete 16 hours of IL State Police (ISP) approved training by an ISP approved instructor. Finger printing IS required. ISP now accepts electronic finger prints by an ISP approved vendors, participating Police Departments. If finger prints are submitted with your application, ISP has 90 days to process the application. If finger prints are NOT submitted, ISP has additional 30 days to process your application.
Save yourself some grief, and get yourself fingerprinted!

State of Illinois requires all applicants to complete 16 Hours of training. If you have previous training as described above, you will receive those credits toward your IL CCW Training requirement.

*** ISP only authorizes 8 hours of maximum credit to be applied. Everyone must complete the 8 hour training course at a minimum to cover legal statues and pistol qualification. All you have to submit to the State Police is your completed State Certificate, which is completed by your instructor. Your instructor MUST be STATE CERTIFIED!

GOOD NEWS! The first permits have been approved. And they will be mailed out shortly. There is a still a 30 day waiting period, for Police Departments in Illinois to raise an objection to your permit application with the Illinois State Police. But after the 30 day period, if you are approved, you should be good to go. As we are a SHALL ISSUE state, your permit should be approved.......................My own permit finally arrived 02 April, 2014. It took 63 days. I must state that I am surprised at the timely issuance of my own permit. Also our own students have been receiving their permits, as of this update.
